Malaysia’s national oil company, PETRONAS, has successfully delivered the country’s first batch of blended Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) for use by Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), marking a key milestone in Malaysia’s journey toward aviation decarbonization.
According to reports, the SAF was produced at PETRONAS’s local blending facility and has been certified by the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC), meeting the standards of the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA). The fuel was delivered directly to KLIA through a multiproduct pipeline operated by Malaysian Refining Company Sdn Bhd (MRCSB), ensuring an integrated supply chain from production to delivery.
Ahmad Adly Alias, Vice President of Refining, Marketing & Trading at PETRONAS, stated that decarbonizing the aviation industry requires reliable and sustainable pathways, and SAF is one of the most viable solutions available today.
This pilot project not only represents an important step in advancing clean energy adoption but also serves as a long-term strategic investment aimed at building Malaysia’s core competitiveness in sustainable fuels through technological innovation, infrastructure development, and talent cultivation.
