Technip Energies, Airbus, Safran and Tereos Launch Major SAF Project in France
Technip Energies announced on June 9 that it has signed an agreement with Airbus, Safran and Tereos to create a joint venture called Rebound for the development of a large-scale Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) project in Dunkirk, northern France.
The project will use the Alcohol-to-Jet (ATJ) pathway, converting advanced ethanol derived from agricultural and forestry residues into SAF. With an expected production capacity of around 160,000 tonnes per year, it is set to become one of the largest ATJ-SAF facilities in Europe.
The partners will fund the project’s development phase, including engineering studies and activities required to reach a final investment decision. Technip Energies will lead project development and engineering, while Airbus and Safran will support commercialization and could become future SAF offtakers. Tereos, a leading European ethanol producer, is expected to supply advanced ethanol feedstock.
The project supports Europe’s growing SAF demand driven by the EU’s ReFuelEU Aviation mandate and aims to strengthen regional energy security and aviation decarbonization efforts.
