Thailand Promotes UCO-to-SAF Initiative Through Public Health Partnership
Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bangchak Corporation to promote the collection and proper management of used cooking oil (UCO) for the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The initiative supports the ministry’s Net Zero MOPH policy and aims to accelerate the transition toward a low-carbon healthcare system.
Under the agreement, hospitals and healthcare facilities across the country will improve UCO collection and disposal practices, preventing the reuse of cooking oil while supplying valuable feedstock for SAF production. The partnership also includes public awareness campaigns highlighting the health risks of repeatedly using cooking oil and the environmental benefits of recycling UCO.
Bangchak said the collaboration combines public health with green innovation and supports Thailand’s circular economy strategy. By converting waste cooking oil into renewable aviation fuel, the initiative is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve resource efficiency, and create additional value from waste. The three-year partnership is intended to establish a practical model for sustainable waste management while contributing to Thailand’s long-term net-zero emissions and sustainable development goals.
