UK SAF Supply Reaches 3.92% of Aviation Fuel Use in 2026

The U.K. Department for Transport (DfT) released its first provisional data for the country’s 2026 sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) mandate on Sept. 17, showing a significant increase in SAF use compared with last year.

From Jan. 1 through Aug. 15, approximately 292 million liters (77.14 million gallons) of SAF was supplied to the U.K. aviation market. SAF accounted for around 3.92% of total aviation fuel use during the seven-and-a-half-month period.

All SAF supplied during the period was classified as regular SAF, while no power-to-liquid (PtL) SAF was reported. The figures highlight the continued dominance of conventional SAF production pathways as the U.K. aviation sector expands its use of lower-carbon fuels.

The 2026 SAF volume has already reached about 88% of the 333 million liters supplied during the whole of 2025, despite covering only part of the year. In 2025, SAF represented 2.26% of total aviation fuel consumption.

The DfT plans to publish additional provisional data periodically, with final 2026 figures expected in November 2027. Final 2025 data is expected in November 2026.
