Malaysia Encourages Use of B12 Biodiesel at Nationwide Fuel Stations
Malaysia has officially expanded the availability of B12 biodiesel across fuel stations nationwide, encouraging diesel vehicle owners to adopt the cleaner fuel as part of the country’s efforts to promote sustainable development and strengthen energy security.
According to the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities, wider implementation of biodiesel blends will help reduce dependence on fossil fuels while increasing domestic consumption of palm oil. The ministry estimates that a nationwide B15 biodiesel program could consume an additional 800,000 metric tons of palm oil annually without significantly affecting the country’s export commitments.
The government began promoting B12 biodiesel on June 1 and is encouraging motorists and commercial fleet operators to support the initiative. Currently, B12 is widely available across Peninsular Malaysia, while some regions have already moved to higher biodiesel blends such as B15 and B20.
Officials emphasized that the use of B12 biodiesel will not negatively impact engine performance. Malaysia has previously implemented B7 and B10 biodiesel programs for many years, providing a solid foundation for higher blending mandates.
The expansion of biodiesel usage is expected to support the domestic palm oil industry, reduce carbon emissions, and contribute to Malaysia’s long-term environmental and energy sustainability goals.
