Thailand has suspended crude palm oil exports for one year to ensure sufficient supply for biodiesel blending

April 5, 2026 · biofuels

According to the latest announcement published in the Royal Gazette, Thailand will ban crude palm oil exports for one year starting April 7, 2026.

The measure, issued by the Central Committee on Commodity and Service Prices, aims to ensure adequate domestic supply amid rising global oil prices and increased demand for biodiesel blending in the energy sector.

Officials stated that this decision is based on a resolution dated March 25, which noted that tensions in the Middle East have driven up oil prices, coupled with growing demand for Thai crude palm oil exports.

These factors are expected to drive growth in domestic consumption. Under the order, exports of crude palm oil classified under customs code 1511.10.00 are prohibited unless exporters obtain prior approval from the Commission’s Secretary-General. Unless amended, the regulation will remain in effect nationwide for one year.
