Korean Air is expanding its use of domestically produced Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) on flights to Kobe and Osaka, Japan. Following a successful one-year trial on the Incheon–Haneda route (Aug 2024–Aug 2025), the airline confirmed the safety and performance of local SAF. From September 19, 2025, to December 31, 2026, Korean Air will operate around 90 flights to Kobe (KE731) and 26 flights to Osaka (KE2117) using a 1% SAF blend. Produced from used cooking oil (UCO) and supplied by HD Hyundai Oilbank and GS Caltex, the fuel is certified under ICAO’s CORSIA program. SAF can reduce lifecycle carbon emissions by up to 80%, making it a key tool in aviation decarbonization. Korean Air emphasized that this initiative highlights its commitment to advancing sustainable aviation in Korea and supporting global carbon neutrality goals.
