HD Hyundai Oilbank Launches Domestic Supply of SAF

September 24, 2025 · biofuels

HD Hyundai Oilbank has officially entered the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) market, marking its first domestic supply and a decisive step into the eco-friendly biofuel sector. The company announced on the 24th that, starting this month, it will provide SAF for Korean Air’s Incheon–Kobe route, following earlier exports to Japan. Under the agreement, Hyundai Oilbank will supply SAF for 90 Korean Air flights through 2026.

This move builds on the company’s June 2023 success in exporting SAF to Japan. Since last year, Hyundai Oilbank has been producing 130,000 tons of biodiesel annually, supported by a cutting-edge supercritical process that operates under high temperature and pressure without catalysts, enabling efficient use of non-edible, high-acidity feedstocks.

Hyundai Oilbank has also made strides in the marine biofuel sector, supplying ultra-low sulfur bio-marine fuel to domestic shipping firms in July 2023, and exporting to a Taiwanese shipping company later in December. Positioning its bio business as a future growth engine, the company plans to accelerate its expansion in the global biofuel market.
