LDC Launches New Oilseed Crushing Line in Argentina to Support SAF Market
Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) has inaugurated a new oilseed crushing line at its agro-industrial complex in Timbúes, Argentina, aimed at supporting the growing global market for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
The new facility is capable of processing up to 3,000 tonnes of high-oil-content crops per day, including camelina, carinata, and canola. Production will mainly focus on camelina oil, a winter crop that does not compete with traditional food grains, making it an increasingly attractive feedstock for sustainable biofuel production.
Juan José Blanchard, CEO for Latin America and global COO of LDC, said the investment reflects rising international demand for renewable fuel feedstocks. He also revealed that a shipment of camelina oil processed at the Timbúes complex will soon be exported to Europe, where it will be used to produce cleaner aviation fuels.
The Timbúes complex has been operating for more than 20 years and is considered one of the most competitive agro-industrial hubs globally, with an export capacity exceeding four million tonnes annually.
Industry observers say the new crushing line will help expand the supply of SAF feedstocks and support the aviation sector’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions as demand for low-carbon fuels continues to grow worldwide.
