UK 2025 SAF Blending Lags Behind First-Year Target

January 2, 2026 · biofuels

According to data from the UK Department for Transport, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) accounted for only 1.6% of total jet fuel consumption for most of 2025, well below the 2% mandatory blending target set for the first year of the policy.

From January to early October, total SAF usage amounted to around 35 million gallons, with the majority supplied by imported used cooking oil–based fuels from Asia, primarily originating from China.

Looking ahead, the SAF blending mandate is expected to rise to 10% by 2030.
