Vietnam Advances SAF Ambitions Through Regional Aviation Summit
Vietnam took another step toward developing a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) industry by hosting the “Sustainable Aviation Fuel: Asia Policy Framework and Market Development” international conference in Hanoi on June 25. The event brought together policymakers, aviation regulators, airlines, fuel suppliers, technology companies, and international organizations to discuss the future of SAF in Vietnam and across the Asia-Pacific region.
During the conference, Vietnamese officials reaffirmed the country’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and highlighted the importance of developing a national SAF roadmap that balances carbon reduction, energy security, and economic competitiveness. Representatives from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) emphasized that supportive government policies, coordinated regulatory frameworks, and strong cooperation between public and private sectors are essential for scaling up SAF production and use.
Participants exchanged experiences on policy development, certification requirements, technology pathways, market creation, and supply chain development. The discussions also explored Vietnam’s potential role in the regional SAF value chain, including feedstock supply, fuel production, infrastructure investment, and international collaboration.
Industry leaders from major aviation and technology companies, including Airbus, Boeing, and LanzaTech, joined the dialogue, stressing that cooperation across the aviation, energy, agriculture, finance, and industrial sectors will be critical to accelerating SAF deployment. The conference marked an important milestone in strengthening regional cooperation and supporting Vietnam’s transition toward a more sustainable aviation sector.
