Singapore and Australia join forces to advance SAF

Singapore and Australia have agreed to strengthen cooperation on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), biofuels, and other clean energy initiatives. The announcement was made on October 8 during the 10th Singapore-Australia Annual Leaders’ Meeting in Canberra, where both nations unveiled the upgraded Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP 2.0).

Singapore currently leads the biofuel sector in the region, hosting Neste’s 1-million-ton-per-year SAF refinery, one of the largest globally. The country also plans to introduce SAF blending mandates in 2026, requiring all departing flights to use at least 1% SAF, with the target rising to 3–5% by 2030, advancing regional green aviation goals.
