EU Anti-Dumping and Anti-Subsidy Duties on U.S. Biodiesel to Expire in 2026

The European Union’s anti-dumping and anti-subsidy duties on biodiesel imports from the United States are set to expire on Aug. 3, 2026, unless the European Commission initiates a review beforehand.

The measures were first imposed in 2009 to address unfair pricing and subsidies provided to U.S. biodiesel producers, which the EU said distorted market competition and harmed European manufacturers. The duties have since been renewed several times to maintain a level playing field.

Under EU trade rules, if sufficient evidence is submitted before the expiration date showing that dumping or subsidization is likely to continue or recur, the Commission may launch a “sunset review” to extend the measures. If no review is initiated, the existing duties will automatically lapse on Aug. 3, 2026.

Industry observers note that the decision could reshape transatlantic biodiesel trade: lifting the duties would reopen the EU market to U.S. exporters but increase competitive pressure on domestic producers.
