Kazakhstan and LanzaJet Discuss Joint SAF Plant to Boost Green Aviation and Energy Independence

On November 10, Kazakhstan held discussions with U.S.-based LanzaJet on the construction of a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production plant. The meeting focused on industrial and technological cooperation to advance sustainable energy development.

Both sides explored the introduction and localization of advanced technologies, with plans to jointly build an SAF plant in Rudny, Kostanay region. The proposed facility is designed to produce 54,000 tons of aviation fuel and 100,000 tons of processed bioethanol annually. A feasibility study for the project has already been completed.

The initiative aims to promote a “green” aviation industry and deepen agricultural processing within Kazakhstan’s agro-industrial complex. It is expected to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with the country’s climate and energy policy priorities. Localization of production would also enhance Kazakhstan’s energy independence and inject new momentum into its agricultural sector.
