Vietnam is accelerating its ambitions to become a regional hub for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) development, highlighted by the country’s first international SAF summit held in Da Nang from May 6–8.

According to Travel Daily News, the ASAFA Innovation & Policy Summit (IPS) Vietnam 2026 gathered representatives from around 70 organizations, including government agencies, airlines, fuel producers, financial institutions, and technology providers. Senior officials from Vietnam’s Ministries of Industry and Trade, Finance, Construction, and Science and Technology also attended the event, reflecting strong governmental support for the SAF sector.

During the summit, the Asia SAF Association (ASAFA) signed two cooperation agreements with Vietnamese institutions. One memorandum of understanding was reached with the Agency for Innovation, Green Transition and Industry Promotion (IGIP) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The agreement focuses on SAF policy support, technical cooperation, and industry capacity building.

ASAFA also signed an agreement with the Da Nang Innovation Startup Support Center (DISSC) to help position Da Nang as a regional center for SAF innovation, talent development, and industry collaboration.

Industry observers believe Vietnam is seeking to capitalize on growing Asian demand for low-carbon aviation fuels and strengthen its role in the regional SAF supply chain.
