Cargill Studies Beef Tallow for Biodiesel Production in Brazil

June 16, 2026 · biofuels

Cargill is evaluating the use of beef tallow as a feedstock for biodiesel production in Brazil after U.S. tariffs reduced the attractiveness of tallow exports. Paulo Cardoso, a trader at Cargill Brazil, said the company has launched a project to assess the feasibility of processing tallow into biodiesel. One of the biodiesel plants acquired by Cargill from Granol in 2023 had previously used tallow, indicating no major operational barriers. Soybean oil remains the primary biodiesel feedstock in Brazil, while tallow ranks third. Industry participants see biodiesel as a promising alternative market for Brazil’s growing tallow supply.
