Vietnam to Launch Nationwide E5 and E10 Biofuel Transition from June 2026
Vietnam is set to officially transition to E5 and E10 biofuels from June 1, 2026, following a long-term roadmap developed by the government and relevant ministries. Authorities state that the necessary legal framework, technical infrastructure, and market consensus are largely in place to support the rollout and advance national sustainability and environmental goals.
At a January 16 meeting reviewing fuel supply management, representatives from the Ministry of Science and Technology confirmed that conditions for introducing E10 fuel on schedule have been met. Major fuel distributors have also prepared proactively. Petrolimex has completed most required preparations, while PVOIL is largely compliant with technical and operational standards, helping ensure adequate supply and quality nationwide.
However, gaps remain in existing petroleum standards, particularly regarding storage tanks and technical regulations. The government is therefore revising product quality laws and emphasizing stronger coordination among ministries, industries, and local authorities, alongside regular inspection and supervision.
Beyond environmental benefits, biofuel adoption is expected to stimulate domestic biofuel production, create jobs, and contribute positively to Vietnam’s socio-economic development, marking a significant step toward a cleaner and more sustainable fuel market.
