Singapore Airlines Signs SAF Supply Agreement with Aether Fuel

October 28, 2026 · biofuels

Singapore Airlines announced on October 28 that it has signed an agreement to purchase up to 4,800 metric tons of next-generation sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from Aether Beacon Pte Ltd. over three years, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2028.

The airline will become the first customer to purchase SAF produced at Project Beacon, Aether’s commercial production facility under development at Aster’s refining complex on Pulau Bukom, Singapore.

The project will use Aether’s proprietary Aurora technology, which applies an innovative approach to the Fischer-Tropsch process to convert waste-derived carbon feedstocks, including biomethane and industrial waste gases, into liquid aviation fuel.

Unlike the conventional hydroprocessed esters and fatty acids (HEFA) pathway, which relies on lipid-based feedstocks such as used cooking oil, this technology offers an alternative route to SAF production and could help diversify feedstock supplies.

The fuel will be certified under the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA).

Aether plans to launch its first large-scale commercial plant by 2031, with production capacity at least ten times greater than Project Beacon.

Singapore Airlines said the agreement supports its ambition to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The partnership also signals growing airline demand for emerging SAF technologies and strengthens Singapore’s position as a hub for aviation decarbonization.
