YPF and TotalEnergies Join Forces on $400 Million SAF Project

October 9, 2026 · biofuels

Argentina’s state-controlled oil company YPF has reached an agreement with France’s TotalEnergies to develop a new bio-refinery in Santa Fe, marking a major step in Argentina’s emerging sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) industry.

The project involves an investment of approximately $400 million and will be developed in San Lorenzo by Santa Fe Bio, a joint venture between YPF and Essential Energy. Under the agreement, TotalEnergies will commit to the long-term purchase of the facility’s sustainable fuel production.

The planned bio-refinery is expected to produce around 170,000 tonnes per year of SAF and renewable diesel (HVO). The facility will target growing global demand for low-carbon aviation and renewable fuels.

The partnership highlights Argentina’s efforts to expand its biofuels industry while positioning local production for international markets.
