Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva announced at the 2025 ASEAN Business and Investment Summit that Brazil aims to strengthen cooperation with ASEAN to boost biofuel production, reduce dependence on traditional energy exporters, and accelerate decarbonization efforts. Lula highlighted biofuels as a cost-effective and scalable clean energy solution applicable to road transport, aviation, and maritime sectors, calling it a key component of the global energy transition.

He emphasized the vast potential of collaboration with Southeast Asia to establish a global biofuel market driven by the Global South rather than wealthy nations. Lula also invited ASEAN members to actively participate in the upcoming COP30 climate summit in Belém, Brazil.
