China’s Suzhou Exports 17,900 Tonnes of SAF
On December 23, an international cargo vessel carrying 17,800 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) produced by Yigao Biochemical Technology (Zhangjiagang) Co., Ltd. safely departed from the port area of Zhangjiagang. The shipment marks a historic milestone, as it represents the first-ever export of SAF from the Suzhou region, signaling a significant step forward for China’s participation in the global sustainable aviation fuel market.
According to project information, Yigao Biochemical’s SAF facility has a designed annual production capacity of 260,000 tonnes. When operating at full capacity, the project is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 970,000 tonnes per year, delivering substantial lifecycle emission reductions compared with conventional jet fuel.
This export not only highlights the rapid progress of China’s biofuel manufacturing capabilities, but also demonstrates the country’s growing role in supporting the global aviation industry’s low-carbon transition. By combining large-scale production with international trade, the project offers a practical and scalable Chinese solution to aviation decarbonization challenges worldwide.
