Philippines Accelerates SAF Development
On June 15, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) signed Memorandums of Understanding with Island Skies Alliance and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) to accelerate the development of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The partnerships will support stakeholder coordination, pilot projects, policy development, capacity building, and carbon market initiatives.
The move aligns with ICAO’s CORSIA program and the Philippine government’s goal of promoting sustainable transportation. SAF, produced from renewable feedstocks such as used cooking oil and animal fats, can reduce lifecycle carbon emissions by up to 80%. The initiative is expected to boost SAF adoption and strengthen regional demand for waste-based feedstocks.
